Are my recipes safe?

Short answer: your recipes live on your account, not on your phone. Lose the phone and you haven't lost the recipes.

Where your recipes actually are

Everything you save — recipes, photos, collections, meal plans and grocery lists — is stored on your Masterplan account on our servers, not only in the app on your phone. The app shows you a copy.

That means deleting the app, losing your phone, or moving to a new one doesn't touch your recipes. Install Masterplan on the new device, sign in with the same method you used before, and everything comes back.

Signing in with the right method

This is the one thing that genuinely catches people out. If you originally signed up with Apple and later sign in with Google — or with an email address that differs from the one Apple gave us — you land in a new, empty account rather than your existing one. The recipes aren't gone; you're just looking at a different account.

If your cookbook looks empty on a new phone, don't start adding recipes again. Sign out, sign back in with the original method, and check before you rebuild anything.

Not sure which method you used? Email [email protected] from the address you think you signed up with and we can tell you what exists.

If something looks missing

Work through these in order, and tell us before you give up:

  1. Check you're in the right account — More tab, then Profile, and see which email is listed.
  2. Pull down on the Cookbook to refresh. A phone that was offline when you last used it may simply not have caught up.
  3. Check whether you're viewing a household rather than your personal space. Grocery lists and meal plans are separate between the two, so things can look missing when they're really in the other one.
  4. Still missing? Email us before you re-add anything. We can look at what's actually on your account, and that's much easier before new data is layered on top.

What we can and can't recover

We can usually tell you what's on your account and help you get back into the right one. What we can't do is undo a deletion after the fact — if you delete a recipe, or delete your account, it's genuinely gone. Deleting your account removes your recipes and photos permanently, by design.

So if you're not certain about a deletion, ask first. We'd much rather answer an email than explain that something is unrecoverable.

Households

Sharing a household shares the grocery list and meal plan with the people in it. Your cookbook stays yours. Leaving a household doesn't delete anything you saved yourself.

Something not adding up?

Email [email protected] and a person will look at it — sooner is better than later.
